Summary:
Jesus Is Like Wi-Fi: How’s Your Connection?
Introduction: Wireless Expectations
- Reference to the famous Verizon ad: “Can you hear me now? Good.”
- Wireless technology (cell phones, Wi-Fi) is something we depend on daily but rarely think about—until it stops working.
- On September 22, 2024, AT&T’s nationwide outage affected 125 million people—including 25,000 failed 911 calls—highlighting how fragile our reliance on connection really is.
- Transition: We often treat God like Wi-Fi—glad to have Him when we need Him, but usually ignore Him until something breaks.
Main Point 1: Jesus Is About Connection
- Like wireless technology, Jesus exists to connect us—first to God, then to each other.
- John 15:1–8 (ESV) — “I am the vine; you are the branches… apart from Me you can do nothing.”
- Connection to Christ is vital for spiritual life, growth, and fruitfulness.
- Just like a cell phone without service is useless, so is a Christian disconnected from Jesus.
- Ephesians 4:15–16 (ESV) — the church grows and thrives when every part is “joined and held together.”
Main Point 2: Connection Weakens with Distance
- Wireless signals weaken with distance from the source.
- Likewise, the further we drift from God, the weaker our spiritual connection becomes.
- Psalm 46:10 (ESV) — “Be still, and know that I am God…”
- Sometimes we need to stop running and realign ourselves with Him.
- James 4:4–8 (ESV) — “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”
- God hasn’t moved—we have. Sin creates distance.
- Isaiah 59:1–2 (ESV) — our iniquities separate us from God.
Main Point 3: Just Because You Can't See It Doesn't Mean It's Not Working
- Radio waves and Wi-Fi are invisible, but they’re real and powerful.
- Same with God—His work is often unseen but real.
- Philippians 2:12–13 (ESV) — “God works in you, both to will and to work…”
- Hebrews 11:1 (ESV) — “Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
- Faith acknowledges that God is always working, even when we don’t understand how.
Main Point 4: Don’t Trust Open Networks (Broad Paths)
- Many unsecured Wi-Fi networks are dangerous—they leave you vulnerable.
- Matthew 7:13–14 (ESV) — “Enter by the narrow gate… the way is hard that leads to life.”
- The easy, open access life may look attractive, but it leads to destruction.
- God’s “network” requires a password: “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6, ESV).
Conclusion: How’s Your Signal?
- Is your connection to God strong or weak?
- Are there too many competing connections in your life?
- Are you checking and maintaining your spiritual router, or is it gathering dust?
- God’s network is secure, loving, and powerful—but it requires intentional connection.
Final Encouragement
- You can boost your signal by drawing near to others in faith.
- Just like combining antennas, gathering with others in worship and support strengthens your spiritual reception.
- If you’re struggling or disconnected—help is available, and Jesus is always within range.
